Tully Arnot and Charles Dennington are Australian artists whose work
explores a loose, almost incidental model of collaboration. Through
their creative partnership, they examine the way that individual works
created in close proximity become, as a whole, collaborative. Their
exhibitions seek to blur the line between discrete artworks and
overall installation in an attempt to understand the dialogues that
arise when artworks are placed together. Since March 2011 Tully Arnot
and Charles Dennington have maintained a collaborative practice,
alongside their individual projects. Three initial solo shows; Bozo
and Bozzetto (Gaffa gallery, March), Double or Nothing (Firstdraft,
June) and Um Om (Rearview,July); explored a deliberate merging of
ideas and the thresholds of authorship, sculpture and installation.
More integrated collaborative projects have included Be Excellent To
Each Other (The Ecclesiastical Banner Project, Parramatta Artist
Studios), TH¿Nk3, a ‘think tank’ (Next Wave Festival, 2012), and
recently a multidisciplinary installation Everything at once, or
actually just quickly one after the other. With more things spinning
on top, (Melbourne Art Fair 2012) that explored representation of
sculpture in a multitude of outcomes. As curators they put together,
the exhibition Doing Becoming Being, (TCB Art Inc, 2012) with the
support of multiple NAVA grants. The exhibition included a group of
local and international artists who investigated notions of function
and invention within sculptural practice. This blog documents their
work as a collaborative duo.
