Torties, Torbies, and Calicos

A collection of my favorite coloration in cats. The alternate blog of The Nik Nik Nik.The coat colors are broken up into:Torties, tortoiseshell cats, which are a combination of solid black mixed with orange tabby. Torties tend to be very mottled, in that the colors are very mixed. Torbies, a combination of black/brown tabby mixed with orange tabby. Just like Torties, but instead of solid black, it’s tabby. They are very cool in that they have a single tabby pattern that changes color from brown to orange and back again. Calicos, which are Torties with the white spotting gene. The more white on a cat, the more the solid black and orange tabby seem to be broken up into large chunks of color, instead of all mixed together. Torbicos, which are Torbies, but with the white spotting gene. Just like Calicos, the more white there is, the more likely the colors will be broken up into large sections instead of a more mottled pattern. Blue Creams, which are Torties with the dilute gene, making the solid black into grey (called blue) and making the orange tabby into cream tabby. Also called  a Dilute Tortie. Dilute Torbies, which are Torbies with the dilute gene. They are blue tabby mixed with cream tabby. Dilute Calicos, which are Calicos with the dilute gene. They are Blue Creams with the white spotting gene. Dilute Torbicos, which are Torbicos with the dilute gene. They are Dilute Torbies with the white spotting gene.
