->SUBMIT! ->Ask Away! With so many people out there today merely
creating copies of original Victorian/Edwardian/other pre-1929
patterns and trying to sell them for profit online (especially ones
that were originally offered for free in period magazines), I thought
it would be worthwhile to create a tumblr that promotes sharing these
patterns for free instead so that anyone interested in history,
historical dress, or trying to learn the quickly fading art of
dressmaking through historical instruction can do so with real,
authentic resources and not be hindered by the burden of cost. All
patterns, instructions, and/or images here are authentic and original.
I won’t be posting or accepting modern reinterpretations of original
designs or modern drafts of original garments. To use the patterns,
you can freehand on drafting/tracing paper, or, if you are especially
motivated, blow up the patterns to full scale to print or have printed
for use. Several period dressmaking books claim making cardboard
cutouts of often used patterns to be a great time-saver, and even the
great Butterick Publishing Company, maker of “The Delineator”
originally mailed out their patterns on thin cardboard, so please
consider that as well. This tumblr loves SUBMISSIONS! Please submit
any original Pre-1929 patterns you find. Images of the intended dress
and original instructions highly encouraged to go along with any
patterns, but it’s not mandatory. Please try to include dates. Thank
you, enjoy, and happy dressmaking!!
