Papergirl is a non-commercial art project which aims to take art
distribution out of galleries and into the streets, giving artists a
wider, more liberal venue to exhibit their work. The project consists
of an open call for artwork, an exhibition and an urban action where
rolls of art are delivered to the public usually on bicycles.
Papergirl is all-inclusive and there are no restrictions on medium,
nor on participants’ age, education, gender, location or background.
Both emerging and more established artists are welcome to take part.
This means that all levels and styles of prints, stickers, posters,
photos, stories, illustrations, drawings, paintings, fabric, t-shirts
come together in unique rolls. The project was founded in Berlin,
Germany by Aisha Ronniger and has been carried out every year since
2006. It sparked from the tightening of a German law that equated
sticking up posters in public places with graffiti. Papergirl was
Aisha’s response to the limitations as a new way to distribute art
directly to society without violating laws. The project has since
spread to other countries and has captured the attention of artists
throughout the world. Papergirl Glasgow 2011 received over 1000 pieces
of artwork from across the world. Facebook + Twitter
